What Would You Do?

You find $45,000 in the attic of your new home. You

a) return it to its rightful owner
b)pocket it. Your house, your money
c)hold at least 20 grand for yourself (Billy wants to go to college) and turn in the rest

My choice would have been b). However, a new homeowner in Salt Lake City one-upped me. Josh Ferrin went to check up on his recently bought home and came upon EIGHT boxes of cash. Ferrin counted out the contents of the boxes with the aid of his parents and found that they were in possession of--as I previously mentioned--$45,000. Outstandingly, he didn't split it with his parents but instead contacted the person he suspected was the legitimate owner of the money.

Now before you call Josh Ferrin crazy for turning the money in, I should tell you that even he was tempted. He admits that his financial needs weren't far from his brain. But then he shows how honourable he is.
"But the money wasn't ours to keep and I don't believe you get a chance very often to do something radically honest, to do something ridiculously awesome for someone else and that is a lesson I hope to teach to my children." Well played, Mr Ferrin.

The money actually belonged to the home's previous owner, Arnold Bangerter, a biologist with a knack for saving. Bangerter passed away in November, leaving behind six grown children. When told of the money, his eldest, Kay Bangerter said of his father, "he grew up in hard times and people that survived that era didn't have anything when they came out of it unless they saved it themselves. He was a saver, not a spender."

In light of all these crimes and scandals, I was beginning to wonder if there was any goodness left in the world. At least we know some men can still be trusted.
